So, in the last week a new mobile game was released called Pokemon Go. Being the nerd that I am, it seemed that I was somehow obligated to download it. I have not had a chance to play it much and have not got very far. The basic premise is that the game is played on what can be called a simplified Google map and updates as you walk around. In random places, you can find monsters based on the Pokemon series of games and capture them using the camera on your phone. You can visit key landmarks such as post offices, fire stations, and monuments and perform other actions within the game.
While I am not overly impressed with the game, it is innovative. It certainly has captured the attention of many people including some of whom you would not expect to be playing it. The problem with this game is that there is the possibility of it leading someone into a dangerous situation. There have been a story where some robbers waited at one of the special locations in the game to find victims.
Please be mindful of your surroundings. Please do not drive and play the game. If you are watching for monsters, you are not paying attention to the road and can get someone killed. Finally, be respectful of other people and their property. Near me, one of these special locations is a funeral home. It would seem to me that playing the game during someone time of mourning is just tacky.
Now, go out there and have some fun.
