Trump is staking his presidency on his war on the press

There is an old and overused refrain used by the Republicans and conservatives that for some reason the press is always biased against them. Whenever things do not go their way, it is always the media fault for it. With the election of Mr. Trump, the criticism of the media has been taken to a whole new level.

Instead of being content to criticize the press, Mr. Trump and his supporters have taken to calling everything with which they disagree as “fake news” (maybe they should really be using the term luggenpresse). The video showing Mr. Trump beating up a CNN logo is a personification of this hatred on the press.

There is a clear stance being made by this Republican administration; either report the news as to how Mr. Trump wants it reported or be subjected to increasing attacks from him and his supporters. Folks, this is how dictatorships get started. They take control of the media and only allow state supported news to be reported.

Of course, conservatives do not mind that Mr. Trump is the embodiment of everything they feared that President Obama would do since it is a Republican doing it.

Trump tweeted a video of him wrestling and punching a man with the CNN logo superimposed on the man’s face, and used a hashtag to call the news network a “fraud.” The video originated in a GIF format from an anonymous Reddit user who, the Anti-Defamation League says, has “an 18-month record of vile comments and memes against Muslims, African-Americans, Jews and others.” Days earlier, the president had posted several revoltingly sexist tweets about MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski.
