Facebook’s artificial intelligence robots shut down after they start talking to each other in their own language | The Independent

Facebook abandoned an experiment after two artificially intelligent programs appeared to be chatting to each other in a strange language only they understood.

The two chatbots came to create their own changes to English that made it easier for them to work – but which remained mysterious to the humans that supposedly look after them.

This story is amazing and terrifying at the same time. It is amazing because these artificial intelligence programs developed their own shorthand with which to speak to each other. While it was not really a language as the headline paints it, it still is incredible that the computers were able to create something sophisticated like that without prompting by its handlers.

It is terrifying because of the potential of what it represents in the future. Elon Musk said that the biggest threat to humanity is going to be artificial intelligence. Think about it, if computers are capable of creating their own language, one that humans will not be able to understand, this would allow them to conspire against us and we would not know (I for one welcome my computer overlords). Not only that, it also represents that AI will be capable of replacing humans in most jobs.

What happens to society when people are no longer needed in the work force? If we continue the conservative/libertarian philosophy, it means that if you are not an owner of capital, you will be resigned to living a life of squalor if you are allowed to live at all because you will be at the mercy of those who do.

Seeing the direction that this country is heading, we are doomed.
